It’s that time of year where hours, days, even weeks can be wasted trawling the high street in search of special Christmas presents. Why not spend a day at the Antique & Home Show at the Lincolnshire Showground, from 2-3 December instead? Not only will you find and buy vintage gifts and unique gifts that are likely to retain value, you won’t pay a fortune to get them. Even your environmental conscience will be kept at peace by choosing to shop antiques and vintage this Christmas.
Take for example these fantastic exotic mirrors found at the Lincoln Showground 7-8 October. Made from old windows, doors and panels with original yet vibrant patina they cost £10-25 each. Extremely similar examples can be found on level 4 of the Liberty store in London for upwards of £45. It’s a no-brainer!
Barbara Sisson’s stand ‘Lechanti’ is a must to see with fabulous antique lamps recovered in tartan which is the bang on trend fabric of all Autumn and Winter 13/14 fashion collections. There are baskets of bobbles, trinkets and decorations to sift through and if you dig deep enough some unopened Rei vintage gaiters with Christmas pattern!
Perhaps a vintage Christmas tree made from green-dyed goose feathers would add some interest to the standard decorations this year? The small delicate trees were first used during WWII by families who were forced to spend the festive period in air-raid shelters. Barbara is in the process of renovating her small vintage caravan with recycled wallpapers she bought from the fair and may just invite you in for a cuppa while you’re there! Tel: 07983 447054.
New to the October fair were upholstery queen Tammy Taylor and Sophie of ‘Sophie’s Flower Co.’ boutique florist in Leicestershire. The vintage inspired ladies see home styling and flowers as a marriage with no one project being complete without the other.
Taking their concept to the fair as ‘Something Old, Something New’ they have the impressive and friendly stand full of affordable gifts from buds to bunting; cushions and chairs, potted plants to printed clothing; ladders and lighting. Sophie’s Flower Co. also runs a Christmas wreath making master class or the complete Christmas workshop where you can spend a whole day creating a door wreath, mantle piece display and table centerpiece.
